Default RJB Mining Bleakhouse site & Mid Cannock Coal Disposal Point 1995

This was the last major mining operation in south staffordshire. There was also a smaller opencast mine working the site of the Reedswood power station
The mine was managed by RJB mining, who in turn used two sub-contractors
Wimpey mining and Powell Duffryn Coal preparation who ran the coal disposal point.

The mud was something else as it was like glue.Very hard to pull your wellington boots out of.

face shovel working the coal seam. The trucks then made the 2 mile trip on a private link road from the mine to the coal disposal point for the coal to be processed. Before leaving via train to either Rugeley or Ironbridge power station.

    The Marion 195 dragline

Mid cannock coal disposal point.Built in 1978 on the Site of the Mid Cannock Colliery. This had processed coal from the kingswood opencast site before being moth balled and brought back in to use in the earlier 1990s for the bleak house site.It was one of two coal disposal points built in south staffordshire. The other disposal point was called Springhill and could be found on the outskirts of Essington.

The coal disposal point site is now home to the Pentalver container depot. The site of the mine is now fields once more.

Well done for taking pictures at the time! Film wasn't cheap to buy or have developed and lets face it, there are prettier things to spend film on! History...right there!

I visited here on a school trip. I remember 'cause we all had to wear little helmets and goggles and Mrs Hitchin got dust behind her contact lens . She was in agony and the girlies were all crying because their overactive imaginations were certain that this would mean a teachers eyeball turning to goo in front of our very fascinated eyes!

I hadn't thought about that for probably twenty five years! Cheers dude!

    As requested.

The site of the coal disposal point is now the pentalver depot.

The site of the opencast mine as seen yesterday. The pylons appear in the background of some of the 1995 pictures.

These last two pictures just show what remains of the link road from the mine to the disposal point.

wow, isn't it great how the earth kinda heals itself. You would never know humans had caused such a deep scar there only 15 years ago.
