    Default Trawsfynydd nuclear power station

Not exactly heritage but may be of interest. Trawsfynydd is in North Wales, about 10 miles east of Porthmadog and south of Blaenau Ffestiniog. The power station is now closed and being decommissioned, but there's apparently a visitor centre with conducted tours of the site.

I have been up here loads of times during the last 15 years, the roads around the place are unbelievable ( 2 wheel heaven ). Apparently designed this way so in the event of some kind of disaster, emergency vehicles could get in very quickly.
It is set in a spectacular landscape, I believe the lake around the complex could be used as emergency coolant for the reactor if things started going bad.
In my opinion the visitors centre is a bit of a P.R exercise to placate joe public. Just a model of the plant and some video's running to extol the wonder of nuclear power. The little cafe next to it sells awesome coffee and there is a "nature" walk around the whole plant.
Well worth a visit if your in the area although the plant itself looks nothing remarkable.

Amazing to think they will be storing all this mid level waste up here for so long

lol......they were taken on my first digital camera.....one of the early 2.1 megapixel Canon compacts. Appalling chromatic aberration, dreadful fringing and compression artifacts.....but at the time I thought it was the dogs

Folks will be interested to learn`that this location has a heritage particularly with the railways which goes on long before the power station was constructed.

An ideal pictorial survey can be found here:-

i remember British Railways train tours from Llandudno in this area during the 1950's
