I cant believe there's nothing here about...
This little beauty in Matlock.

Originally named "Woodbank", this gorgeous piece of architecture was built by John Edward Lawton, a Cotton Manufacturer from Manchester. (cant tell you the date, there seems to be some dispute, but around 1901).
"The house had 56 bedrooms. In the 40 acre grounds there are 2 large caves, as well as woodland and formal gardens."
It's been a home for soldiers and a "religious sect". It then became a sheltered housing complex. It now lies empty.
According to one website plans have been approved for the house to be turned into a hotel, but this part of the site hasn't been updated for more than 3 years.

I came across (and gained access to) this building back in the late 90s. I started young! The less said about it the better. It was a rather interesting experience.
I subsequently visited several times since, but friends were reluctant to come with me, due to the fact that they watch too many horror films!
Then last year a group of us, armed with energy drinks and torches decided to take another look. Unfortunately there is no longer a way to gain access due to CCTV, visible alarms.. and well, the doors arent left hanging off!
