    Happy Birthday!

    Here's an old street sign from Birmingham for you. You can see exactly the same style of street sign in some of the older streets in Newcastle-under-Lyme and I've always assumed that they date from the late 19th century

    Thank you Berenice. There used to be identical signs (as I remember) in Leeds. I think their use might have gone on till WW1, as the street I had a flat in in Beeston (and all the streets around) had one and these were being built around 1905.

    I can remember my father dragging me with him to the Middleton Steam Railway, must have been around 1962. I seem to remember there was a Rugby League match on at the same time at Hunslet, I heard the crowd as we walked past the ground; it was the first time I'd ever heard the noise a crowd makes at a sports occasion. My memory tells me that the railway set-up was quite interesting although very small
