I don't see why we should be the only beings in the universe, but I think there is a rational explanation for things seen in the sky!
I came across this earlier today and was unsure whether or not to post it, but![]()

My opinion and it is purely a personal opinion, is that we would have to be pretty naive to think that we were the only form of intelligent (and I use the term loosely) life out there... considering the size of the universe and all...

You say you would have to be pretty naive to believe we were the only beings who came into existence. I would agree with that. BUT I answered no to "Do you believe in UFOs", which is a completely different thing. Believing in UFOs and the like , as reported in most cases , is like being one of that tribe in Indonesia who believe/ believed in the cargo cult religion that the Duke of Edinburgh is going to come over to them in an aeroplane and give them everything they want. Aeroplanes exist. The Duke of Edinburgh exists . But he's not going to go over and say hello to them, let alone drop refridgerators out of the sky to them. Its the same with alien lifeforms
A fair point and I agree yet disagree. Ok, I could've said do you believe in aliens, but its generally accepted that it goes without saying when asked do you believe in UFOs. The Indonesian tribe isn't a valid comparison as they are more than likely third world with little to no technology (not very pc but true) in comparison to ourselves... also I'm fairly sure that the Duke of Edinburgh has been to Indonesia.... at least once?

UFO - unidentified by definition infers it's existance
UFO's and the existance of extraterrestrial life are 2 very different phenomena and should not be confused. The vast majority of current NASA space missions are involved in the hunt for the existance of life in both our own solar system and beyond. The search for exoplanets has yielded over 400 planets rotating around parent stars and they have only been searching a couple of years.
Contrast this with SETI which has been going for 2 decades and not resolved a single candidate signal.
Here is a link to the recently declassified ( Feb 2010 ) U.K MOD reports on UFO phenomena. The files contain a wide range of UFO-related documents covering the years 1994-2000 including close encounters, strange illnesses, flying ‘Toblerones’ and unidentified objects tracked on radar.
UFO files | Newly released files from The National Archives
Some of these are quite large documents but I would urge anybody with a passing interest to at least read through a couple of them.
