    Default Longsdon, Staffordshire (1)

Any guesses? It was manufactured in Staffordshire although that's not necessarily a particularly useful clue.

The wheel is powered by a belt connected to a steam engine in the farmers field, and this causes the thing with slitty holes to vibrate. Potatoes are passed down this , and surplus earth falls through the slitty holes - Well you asked for a guess.

Wrong but you're on the right track in thinking about farmers and their work.

is it a root cutter used to slice turnips for animal feed?

If so, could it be manufactured by Bamfords Ltd of Uttoxeter?
