I used to work in the old St.Georges building, all along the corridors were enormous pipes with asbestos warnings, the lagging on them was crap, used slide a high duster along n pull bits off. That building is riddled with the stuff, does it burn? If it does, how dangerous is asbestos once it's been alight?

    asbestos does not burn...

Asbestos does not burn. That is why it was so widely used in fire proof materials such as fire curtains, fire blankets, etc.

    Answers.com - Does asbestos burn

    the dangers caused by fires-

Asbestos becomes exposed as a result of the fire itself or as the structure of the building fails or deteriorates. In the initial stages of extinguishing a fire the burning asbestos may become damaged to the point where the fibers are easily released into the air. Once exposed into the air, it is easy to breathe it, where it becomes lodged in tiny sacs lining organs, and the victim is not able to breath or cough them out.

Exclamation Re: Asbestos and the facts

This didn't make sense as it was split up and butchered a long time ago with the first post placed elsewhere, I've reinstated it so hopefully that has been addressed..
