First visited this places in the 90s, not many pics worth scanning from then, re-visited for a look at the 4000 ton C2 type tanks, (6 in total).
Underground tank. ![]() Entry tunnel. ![]() Shaft for vent fan and winch access. ![]() Tank internals, the suction pipe can be raised to take the cleanest fuel from near the surface. ![]() Swivel elbow for suction pipe. ![]() Inlet pipe. ![]() The tanks are 118 feet in diameter and nearly 20 feet high. Old scans. Entrance tunnel. ![]() Ablutions bunker. ![]() Where it fits on the WW2 system.

A 4000 tonne tank??? It was a slightly different kind of tank to the one I was expecting but I like these pics! Nice one!
I'd have gotten myself some orange, rusty fingers climbing around that! |
