Default Beeston Castle WW2 Fuel Store.

First visited this places in the 90s, not many pics worth scanning from then, re-visited for a look at the 4000 ton C2 type tanks, (6 in total).

Underground tank.

Entry tunnel.

Shaft for vent fan and winch access.

Tank internals, the suction pipe can be raised to take the cleanest fuel from near the surface.

Swivel elbow for suction pipe.

Inlet pipe.

The tanks are 118 feet in diameter and nearly 20 feet high.

Old scans.
Entrance tunnel.

Ablutions bunker.

Where it fits on the WW2 system.

A 4000 tonne tank??? It was a slightly different kind of tank to the one I was expecting but I like these pics! Nice one!

I'd have gotten myself some orange, rusty fingers climbing around that!
