    Default Dovecotes

Very impressive brick-built dovecote at Croxall Hall in Staffordshire. Dovecotes were so big because the houses whose land they are on used to keep doves for their flesh, eggs and dung.
Croxall Hall itself dates from the late 16th century so the dovecote could be around 400 years old SK 195 138

The British Dovecote Society What is a Dovecote?

Not the original doorway, I suspect; it would have been a bit smaller

    Polesworth Abbey SK 263 024

A bit of info on this one - the three layers of stone blocks at the base are the original mid-1100s foundations. Everything else belongs to the early 18th century (c.1702-1714).

In 1362 it was valued at 30 shillings(£1.50) annually.

It's now used as a storeroom

This dove or pigeoncote is built into an old farmhouse, situated in what has since become the Bunny village pub's car park
