    Default Guinness time

Seeing this clock in the Tontine pub in Melverley reminded me of a Guinness clock that used to be in Trinity Street, Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent; sadly gone now because of alcohol advertising rules. Lost heritage

If only I'd thought to take a close-up while it was still there

Re; the Guinness clock in Trinity Street- I can remember the pub, but not the clock. Its probably because of my age LOL
What sort of date was it there?

I took the photo 22.6.1999. Can't think how much longer it was there for - 4 or 5 years? The funny thing is that no-one I've ever mentioned the Guinness clock to remembers it at all so you're not alone! Maybe it had been there so long that nobody noticed it any more

How many other things have we past without noticing & then they are gone

Can't remember the original name of the pub, but wasn't it "themed" as an Irish pub sometime in the 90's. If so was the clock a new addition?

Possibly it wasn't there too long, only if there was an Irish-themed pub - an O'Neill's? Trouble is, the pubs and bars down Trinity Street have changed their names and themes so often I can't remember what was there back in the late 90s

Looking for some info I came across another Guinness clock, at Belle Vue, Manchester

The Guinness Clock at Belle Vue

On the subject of Guinness my memory remembers the toucan as being a common feature of Guinness advertising but how? Were these outdoor clocks a common feature or were they poster adverts I remember the toucan from?

Can't say that the Trinity Street area of Hanley was some where I frequented, but as you say the pubs seem to come & go- hard to keep track of.

Like the Guinness clock in Belle Vue. Remember visiting there when a kid, long time ago
Don't remember the clock, but the web link says they were withdrawn around 1966, I'd be about ?? then!
Always remember the cowboy live action shoot-out show though- its a boy thing I suppose

I was taken to Belle Vue Zoo sometime in the 60s; in retrospect I think I'd have enjoyed the speedway more!

Belle Vue Zoological Gardens was a large zoo, amusement park, exhibition hall complex and speedway stadium located in Belle Vue, West Gorton, Manchester, England. The Gardens opened in 1836 and developed into one of the most popular attractions in the north of England. At its peak it occupied 165 acres (0.67 km2) and attracted over 2 million visitors each year, up to 250,000 of them over the Easter weekend alone. The Zoo closed in September 1977, and the amusement park in 1980. The land was sold off in 1982, and the site was finally cleared in 1986.

    Don't remember the zoo.
