    Nice find

Perhaps ought to keep quiet about it, what with the furore about next years centenary of the Titanic sinking being made by some of the local "historians"

That's news to me. What's happening? Have some local historians, or local people trying to pass themselves off as historians, got Titanic-related books and videos coming out?

No, basically the Sentinel has been running a number of articles on whether Stoke should honour Captain Smith.

See: Should we honour Titanic's captain? | This is Staffordshire

But various residents & "hisorians" are somewhat opposed to any suggestion of a memorial.

    Comments have included:

"I see no reason why Stoke-on-Trent, in line with Liverpool and Belfast, should not mark the upcoming centenary of the sinking of the Titanic, but I would vigorously oppose any plan to erect a statue of Captain Smith in his home town of Hanley."

    and:

"Could this be the laugh of the century? To honour Captain Edward Smith, the person responsible for one of the most famous disasters of the century?"

You also mention videos, yes there has been a new Titanic documentary DVD recently released by someone local, but don't even get me started on that one
