    Default Overgrown and derelict

Saw this off a country lane close to the Newcastle-under-Lyme - Shrewsbury road. It's in a fenced off area which has a Vodaphone transmitter in it. Looks like something like a weigh bridge office to me but why there'd be one in such a rural place I don't know. Any ideas?

    Question Re: Overgrown and derelict

Was there any evidence of a weigh bridge left?

No although there looked to have been one or two other building nearby judging by the piles of rubble and bricks. I doubt it was a weigh bridge office, it just resembled one.
I can't see what sort of farm building it could have been. There's no evidence of industry in the area.

Not that I know of but it's just possible, being to the west of Silverdale Colliery. The nearby hamlets of Acton and Butterton don't look anything like old colliery villages.

How about it being something like an old site for a haulage business - that sort of thing. If you look at the second photo it looks like there was another door at the rear. Odd

Early collieries were very small scale operations and would not necessarily have an associated pit village . There are at least twelve separate pits known to have operated in the Silverdale area .

Still a long shot I know but I still wouldnt rule it out altogether as the building style fits.

    Talking Re: Overgrown and derelict

Have we got a google earth point so that we can perhaps see the immediate area from above?

I have had a general look at the area near the two villages on Google Earth and noticed some unusual ground markings just to the west of Acton Village (may be an old industrial area or old excavations)

Was the building anywhere in that vicinity ?
