Wesleyan Methodist Chapel, Walsall

I stumbled across this place whilst messing about in google and decided to go check it out with the help of Indy. When I got there I found out that it had been recently gutted by fire (July/August '08).

The church was built in 1910, though I found a website that claims it was 1883. It closed sometime around 2005 due to a serious crack appearing at the front end of the building.

Sadly the stairs to the bell tower were destroyed in the fire

We really didn't expect this to still be around when we got there, so it was fantastic to still find it standing and safe enough to have a look inside.

Apparently the crack is down to some serious subsidence business.

Not that I know of, I'm finding it pretty hard to research this place. But to quote boxfrenzy from urbex forums;

"Apparently it closed a few years ago. It was a popular church with things like guides and playgroups and general community use. One day it was surveyed and the very next day it was shut down as it was structurally unsafe. It caused a lot of bother as there was no warning all these groups would have to move on."

Nice pics, looks like an interesting place. Shame yo couldnt get tothe tower. There are a few abandoned churches near me, and most of them have suffered fire damage

This is one of the very, very few places where there was little to nothing of interest inside for me (and the things that were are more than admirably covered and captured by the dynamic duo previously) this probably wasn't helped by the brooding and malevolent atmosphere and this was before I spotted the pentagram while I was editing some pics.... its far more photogenic outside than in, in my humble opinion anyway..... here's what I did take-
