    Default Wingfield Manor - Derbyshire

The vast and immensely impressive ruins of a palatial medieval manor house arranged round a pair of courtyards, with a huge undercrofted Great Hall and a defensible High Tower 22 metres tall. Currently not open to the public.

Drawbacks are - it is sited on a working farm and part of the ruins are still livable and are indeed lived in. Could not get access but took a few photos round the back which was the only place we could get to from the path we had approached from. Here's the pictures. I'm afraid they are no where near the quality you guys are used to as they were taken on a mobile phone, but at least you get the gist.

    A lovely old door

    The part still lived in

    Inside the hut

Some sort of rusty old tool on the work bench

I also found this great bull dozer which nature has claimed

Anyway, thats my first thread. hope it was ok.

    Excellent quality for phone pictures.

There are some interesting looking bits and pieces in that pile of stuff in the shed , I can see what looks like some early tractor components.

Congratulations on a stunningly lovely maiden thread and am extremely impressed with the quality of your mobile phone pictures, if you had not said so i would never have guessed.

A beautiful building, that stonework is gorgeous. It's a crime to stonemasonary and the craftwork involved to have let it get in such a state..heritage funds could not be better allocated imho.

Looking forward to any further installments..thank-you

Blimey! I'm impressed...especially for mobile pics! Loved that shot with the tin shack just tacked onto the side of the building, almost as an afterthought!

And yes...I can see old tractor bits too...The seats were removed from many of the early examples and turned into pub bar stools. Very comfortable and extremely difficult to fall out of if I remember correctly...

    Nice one dude!

How's that digging going? Is it still alive and kicking or put to bed?..
