Recently I've become interested in where I work and am trying to piece together a little of it's history.
All I knew was that it was an old foundry, backed up by the amount of foundry dust still sat on the roof beams, that possibly made cannon balls.
Thanks to one photo in a book by The Mount Pleasant Local History Group I found out that it was the main manufacturing site for Bailey Pegg & Co Ltd who did indeed make cannons, shot and balls and later cast iron pipes.
Their main office was in Blackfriars,London.
The foundry was built between 1885 and 1900 and they went into liquidation in 1966.
Their cannons had a world wide reputation and one is still sat, looking rather worse for wear, near the war memorial in Brierley Hill.
I still want to find out more about the foundry as well as looking at other interesting buidlings in and around the Black Country.
