RAF Watnall (Filter Block Bunker)

Bunker is under threat! I have pictures of it as it has been dug out from the surrounding earth - any ideas why? who owns the place at the moment?

Its a great location for us to make short films and action sequences - we`d all be sad to see it go!

i have no idea who owns the site but why would anyone want to dig it out?

to be honest i don' recognise it any more. i suppose that's natural as i left there in 1961 when the switchboard was a hive of activity (but not much else).

the met office was still down the cutting although it was being moved to its new site where i believe it is still located

Hello - ao7Sturner - and other interested parties re ; Watnalls Bunkers.; - wonder whats goin' on there then ?? - velly interlesting - I vill hve to report dis to ze Gestapo. - seriously though, if you get to know of any developments - please post, I had many good memories working down there - It was a hive of activity - Cheers Tom

Yeahh, I`ll keep you posted, I`ll be going to see if there are any developments as soon as possible - just as soon as the weather lets me! I`ll take some cameras to film some decent footage of the area - just in case these are it`s final days!

Yes I see it now - didnt realise it was in among that fine acting - which gave me a laugh .

i didn't get any pictures either, said they'd been removed by sender

The bunker is not under threat. Although work is going on at the site, the filter block will remain. The land, along with the bunker, is owned by a friend and as soon as I have a thumbs up from him, I will let you know what the plans are.

I am a serving RAF Officer and Pilot residing in Watnall and I am interesting in collecting as much information about RAF Watnall and the Bunker's role through its history.
