Default Castle Inn - Nr Banbury

Ok so its not disused or abandoned but it is a very interesting place and it is a public house, its on top of a hill called Sunrise Hill on the Stratford Upon Avon to Banbury Road. Why is it interesting you might say, well..............

Its a castle of sorts to start off with thats been turned into a pub, but most importantly it stands overlooking the field where the very first battle of the English Civil War started and even today you can walk in the field after its been ploughed and find old gun balls left over from the war.

Now thats just the beginning there is also a huge ammo base nearby and an ROC Bunker but I have yet to find access to either as its very heavlly guarded and very very secure.

Also nearby is Gaydon which is the where Aston Martins are built and that does have access to it, all be it at night!! (Sorry not had chance to go?)

Thumbs up Re: Castle Inn - Nr Banbury

I used to live in between Stratford and Evesham, such a beautiful part of the country. I used to go over to Long Marston air field I loved to watch the planes coming in to land, great place to go if you like planes

I live almost next door to the air field, not much going on now, just a few industrial units and the drag strip. The army base has closed and is now an auction place for cars and a dumping ground for unsold cars.

There is a few old railway buildings around but not much to shout about unfortuantly

Talking Re: Castle Inn - Nr Banbury

Yes I can remember the old railway line by where I lived at the back of Salford Hall, which is now a hotel, the old station masters house disappeared years ago and then the bridge that used to go over the track went when the new bypass was built. I have a good link for piccy of old Warwick I need to check where to put it but you might like to see it.

If you have the pic then would like to see it, the bypass still has the old signal box on the side of the road, been vandalised and graffiti all over it now. Been meaning to take a look inside properly but bypass so busy with traffic and the odd police car that you cant stop anywhere to get out for a proper recci, only the quick slow down with hazards unfortunatly
