Unhappy Re: Stirchley swimming baths, Birmingham

I am so shocked to see how this location has turned into what can only be described as a...........words fail me. I remember those changing cubicles, it was heartbreaking to see it in this state. Stirchley was were I first learnt to swim. What is wrong with the council letting a facility like this fall into disrepair, very sad indeed.

the old central baths in wolverhampton looked very similar with the cubicles and balcony and stuff and have you seen what it was replaced with!!

I dread to think what's in its place now, its just a shame these places cannot be restored to their former glory for everyone to enjoy

Not sure, but this is an extract from the wikipedia entry for Stirchley-

On June 25th, 1911, Bournville Lane Baths were opened to the public by King's Norton and Northfield District Council. These were the second baths constructed by the council with the other being located on Tiverton Road, Bournbrook. Later that year, the baths were taken over by the Birmingham Baths committee.
The baths contained one swimming pool with a spectators' gallery, private baths for men and women and a small steam room. In the winter months, the swimming pool was floored over and the room was used as a hall.
