    Default Something modern in Cannock

In the middle of a busy roundabout so I couldn't check if there's a plaque. I think the sculptor was so busy trying to make the piece look clever he forgot to make it understandable. Something to do with coal mining and steelworking?

p.s. Is the brickwork at the base supposed to look that bad?

Looks like someone pushing a tub out of the cage to me, but then I'm a philistine when it comes to "art"

"Cannock is a thriving town with an increasing population having
survived the decline of indigenous industries. The placing of public
art that depicts the mining industry on this central roundabout
celebrates the towns cultural heritage, creates an orientation point
and importantly a ‘sense of place’. The adjoining central reservation
is landscaped with well tended grass and silver birch refl ecting the
inherent landscape qualities of the Chase albeit within an urban
    environment." from p 20 of http://www.cannock-chase.co.uk/asset...nehighways.pdf

    Picture shows the same "art"!

Can't see any silver birch (not that I'm a tree expert) or on google (Church St, Cannock, WS11, UK - Google Maps ) . On google it has pretty flowers and rrasonably tended grass around it. I suppose it is the council cuts that have made it revert to what looks like gravel

Looking closer, the brickwork looks as if it is meant to be like that - the easy way to do a circle !

I think it's rather good, there's old and new represented - the pitstock, the miner pushing a truck, while beside him are the blades of the modern machine which cut the coal seams. Can't see what the other ?figure is doing.

No, he standing up. Which also rules out him being an electrician or fitter
