    Default Cliff Vale Inn,Stoke

Went in here something like 10 years ago and we were stunned by how rundown it was inside. Dark and dingy with 2 or 3 elderly men the only other customers. It was so bad that we went back a couple of months later to check if it had improved at all but no,it hadn't. It was a Marston's pub.

I'd only just finished work and was wearing my uniform - it wouldn't have looked very good if I'd been seen climbing through a derelict pub's window dressed like that!

Hi Its many years since I have seen this pub... but I can say I know it well. I lived here in the 60's with my Grandparents. Mr Henry Leese was the landlord (my Grandad) in the 60's and early 70's. I lost contact with my Mum's side of the family but I would be interested to find Marlene and Linder Leese. I remember the pub as a buzzing place with a good old sing-song on the piano in the snug.
To the side of the pub was Beeche's plant and builders yard.

Never did get round to having a drink in the vale. But as it was on the main stoke-hanley bus route I've been passed it hundreds and hundreds of times over the years. I was always intrigued by it - I do remember it as Marstons. And as with many pubs owned by this brewery the decor was basic - and better for it, mostly. Anyway, the Vale always looked like one of the smallest pubs in Stoke. The nearest I ever got to it, drinks wise, was The Phoenix on Liverpool Road, and the other Marstons pub on the other side of the road a bit further down (just passed the chinese take away - the Cosmo, I think that was called).
