    MORRIDGE WAR MEMORIAL STAFFORDSHIRE

    It is located between Mermaid Pool and the Mermaid Inn near Leek, Staffordshire at the trig point. The moument was erected by the Leek Home Guard ex commander, Fred Adams in 1946. and it going to officially recognised on Sunday 6th April 2008 by a dedication service of relatives and friends of the soldiers.

    World War Two

    COPE Basil Gunner 14228231, 11 Field Regt, Royal Artillery who was killed in Italy by a shell 1 March 1944 age 21. Son of Harry and Minnie Cope, of Leek, Staffordshire. Buried at Cassino War cemetery, Italy

    TATTON Norman Yates Royal Marine, PLY/X110320, 47, Commando who died in Normandy 16 June 1944 age 20. Buried at Ranville War Cemetery, France. The CWGC have him killed 14th June 1944

    STAFFORD Michael Roy Pte 14385183, 1st The Loyal Regt (North Lancashire who died of wounds in hospital after treading on a mine 28th April 1944 age 19. Son of Arthur and Ellen Stafford, of Leek, Staffordshire. Buried at Beach Head War Cemetery, Anzio, Italy.

    HOROBIN Leslie L/Bombardier,3973373, 3/2, Maritime Regt, Royal Artillery who went missing 10 May 1941 age 20 Son of Joseph H. and Harriet Ann Horobin, of Longnor, Staffordshire. Commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial

    That's 3 of us that are intertested. I will call at the Mermaid tonight and get opening times, food availability etc and let you all know!

    The Mermaid is shut on Monday nights!

    So how about we meet at the Three Horseshoes at 8.00pm then go up to the pool?
