Default Abandoned housing estate near Cannock

I came across this abandoned housing estate near Cannock some months ago when all the steel shuttering was up, however a few days ago the wrecking crew moved in so I suspect it wont be around much longer and tried to get what pictures I could.

I have not been able to find out much other than these are post war prefab houses making an estate of around 80 units. A couple of them still house people refusing to move however the rest were bought under a compulsory order.

    Thanks for looking

Possibly built for "migrating" coal miners in the 1950/ 60's?
A few estates like that round Stoke that housed miners from the North East when their pits closed & they were promised "jobs for life" in the coal industry

There were quite a few miners came down to Stoke from Cumbria in the 70s, maybe even into the early 80s too

Hey Oildrum, thanks for your thoughts. You are probably right as the old pit was located about 1/2 mile from this estate.

It looks like the old miners estate "Coalville" in Weston Coyney, near Stoke on Trent!

Coalville is currently under redevelopment, but a few of the original houses are still left I think, although many of the "better" ones have had a brick skin put on them. Its now called "Western Heights"

Which Cannock pit is this abandoned estate near to?
