I can remember there used to be a Pink Paraffin ad on ITV - early 1960s? But not the one below; I one I recall had a jingle that went something like "The pink, Pink Paraffin man (or van)"

UK television adverts 1955-1985

Pink Paraffin

Man sits on floor confronting paraffin heater, and a voice answers his questions to a jingling little tune

I’ve got a cold house.
Why don’t you heat it?
My heater’s empty – I think.
Why don’t you fill it then?
I’m out of paraffin.
Here’s the answer then, ring for Pink.
Can I afford it?
Most economical! Only one penny, per hour.
Now can you tell me, who will deliver it?
Ring this number, right now:
[Deep over voice] Ring Hunter 1234 for your local Pink Stockist. [London area]

The dealer where you see this sign, see this sign, see this sign [elsewhere]

Esso Blue paraffin (1): 1958
Cartoon man wearing bowler hat in office answers the telephone four times

Male caller: Hello — Joe?
Dealer: No, I’m the Esso Blue dealer — you know, the people that deliver to your door.

Boom-boom-boom-boom, Esso Blue!

Another male caller: Hello — Joe?
Dealer: No, this is the Esso Blue dealer — the stuff that gives extra warmth.

Female caller: Joe, darling….
Dealer: no, it’s the Esso Blee Dooler — you know, it burns without smell.

Joe: Hello, is that the Esso Blue Dealer? This is Joe. Any calls for me?

Boom-boom-boom-boom, Esso Blue!

From UK television adverts 1955-1985

Nice one!!

Antony Charles Solomon, advertising executive: born 13 July 1913; married 1946 Birgitte Rosetzsky (one son, one daughter); died London 18 March 1993.

On one famous occasion when awaiting to record an Esso Blue Paraffin commercial the voice-over actor failed to put in an appearance. In frustration, Solomon said, 'Let me have a go at it,' in order to get the sound balance correct. He then said: 'I'm your Esso Blee Dooler' instead of 'Esso Blue Dealer', which brought the house down and formed the basis of the campaign. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/pe...n-1454992.html

My what good memories you all have

Can remember having a paraffin heater during winter months before we had central heating (showing my age now ). As well as having to keep the thing topped-up, had to keep the wick trimmed. This was before the advent of bottled gas, etc.

I can remember the Esso Blue ads from childhood. I remember the old heaters too, and the smell.... and if you looked at things through the fumes everything looked a bit wobbly!!!
