Soon to be demolished despite local campaigns to save it . The local council is selling the land to a developer for housing (surprise,surprise) It was still used by athletic clubs and schools until recently but all protests were ignored and the council have pushed the plans through.

It was opened in 1986 by Steve Cramm. The track is synthetic and still in good condition aswell as the building itself.With the Olympics coming up in 2012 you would think these places would get plenty of useage. Damn greedy council

I ran my fastest time ever for the mile here...5 minutes 12 seconds. (I wish I could do it in double that time now!) It was open a long time before 1986 because we used to have inter-school and county tournaments here but the newer buildings started to go up and a new tartan track went down and then Steve Cram came and opened it. I remember because I was thirteen or fourteen and he signed my tee shirt in marker pen and it bled through onto my back and my friends noticed it in the showers at school. Just bought a whole heap of memories back!

I'm sad it will be flattened.
