Thanks again guys. It is lit with a big searchblaster from Homebase (5MCP - about a tenner?) and camera on tripod. Exposure is about 30 seconds and once the shutter opens, lots of torch waving, concentrating on the distance mainly, with some "light painting" closer to the camera. These ones I actually got my exploring partner, the lovely Frogbox to stand at the opposite side of the tunnel doing the torch work as I liked the angle of light a bit better, as it gave more shadows. Hope that helps.

Interesting... Sorry to be dim...but I'm new to this. :p

So you set the camera (no flash) on a long 30 second exposure.. Do you leave the rest on auto?

I will need to find a dark place and try it out.

I usually set the f stop to 5.6 or 7 (or whatever number it is) and the exposure to manual. It can be quite difficult to auto focus down there, so sometimes I manual focus, by setting the focus to infinity. My camera is a rather battered dslr Nikon D40, but I had decent shots using a compact set onto fireworks setting with 4 second exposures - that's all it would do.
This is one from ages ago of the Miley tunnel in Preston on a four second exposure.

    camera Fujifilm FinePix F20.
    I hope this helps!

    Excellent, thanks for that.

I don't have anything fancy, I have a Fuji S602 and a good old fashioned Pentax MZ7 35mm. I have got out of the habbit of taking pictures lately, so really need to 'find my muse' again.

Hi awesome pics of the Tunnel; brings back loads of memories. I used to hang around the tunnel and Dudley Freightliner quite a lot, after it had closed down.

So anyways, I dug out a couple of old pictures. Sorry about the quality, (it was pre-digital!) but thought I'd post em out of interest.

We used to go into the tunnel, stand in the arches and wait for a train
to come along... lol, you can just make out the driver in this shot.

Somewhere along the middle section of the train.
They sure did make a mighty rumble as they went by!

The end of the train and my mate standing in the arch!
