    Default Middleport

The Memorial Methodist Chapel was re-built in 1924 as a memorial to the men of Middleport who died in WWI. A roll of honour with the names of the WWII Fallen was also said to have been later incorporated into the church interior but an inspection before demolition found no memorial.

The chapel was later taken over by the Catholic Church as the Holy Catholic Church, Western Rite, Our Lady & St Michael, Orthodox Traditional Faith.

Demolition began last week with only the tower and entrance still standing as of yesterday.

    The Memorial Chapel's foundation stone.

My thanks to Jon Goodwin of Stoke-on-Trent Museums for supplying the photo and to yamahapaul for downloading it for me.

I wonder if the tower is listed or perhaps they've just not got to it yet?

Could be that it's intended to incorporate the tower into whatever is planned for that particular site. I'll go back some time and check.

If that is the case then it suggests some kind of listing status somewhere... hmmmm either way, I wonder how long before the inevitable fire... or am I just being cynical???
