Exclamation Wolverhampton low level station

In the same article in The Black Country Bugle as the Springfield Brewery thread found elsewhere in this section, its stated that work has now also halted on the station even tho it was well progressed towards the goal of being turned into a casino....

One of the most definitive photo-studies has been done by the regional railway community. Here's the link

http://www.railaroundbirmingham.co.u..._low_level.php

There are other connections on the local history/scit site for example if you want to rummage, or shall I give a few pointers?

Some I took - sorry, I can't check the date, I'm in the middle of packing before putting my house up for sale! Late 80s/early 90s, I think.

This is part of the subway connecting the 2 Wolverhampton railway stations. The overhead lighting was still working.

From where I stood to take this photo there was a small, traditional pub - something like the Rising Sun?

Thumbs up Re: Wolverhampton low level station

Great pics, that is how I remember it too, I quite often used to go for a nose while I was waiting for trains and suchlike the subway was notoriously dodgey... the pub opposite is called The Great Western, its been called that for as long as I can remember (which to be quite honest these days is usually last week )

The Great Western sounds about right, I remember they did lots of different handpulled beers there.

They still do and reguarly appear in CAMRAS guides, reccomendations etc and I think get highly placed in 'real ale pub of the year' or something like that.....

I can really recommend the Great Western Pub, They have a great local atmosphere, great beer and used to do a mean Faggots and peas!

In my youth as a spotty railway apprentice, we used to have to service a special cabin that transformed 25000 volts down to 615, 415 and 240 volts, it was behind the pub, but the local "night Ladies" also frequented there too with their clients.....sometimes we had to knock on the windows of steamed up cars so we could get into the cabin.......windows usually opened by very sheepish drivers who then shot off at the speed of light!

E' they wre good times!
